Assessing Damages to Books
The state mandates that teachers assess and collect
fees for lost and damaged books.
- Books
damaged beyond usefulness should result in payment according to the same
schedule as for lost books. The
student should keep that damaged book.
- When
assessing damages to books teachers should consider the condition of the
book at issue. Teachers should begin assessing damages and charging for
lost textbooks at least two weeks prior to the end of each nine
weeks. This should allow enough
time for payment of money that any student may owe. Damage fees on textbooks range from
$1.00 to $5.00 (for extensive damage).
- No books
are to be left in the classrooms or cabinets.
