District Guidelines for Substitutes

The following guidelines will be used in the payment of substitutes.

1.       All substitutes must be approved in advance and on the district listing.

2.       Substitutes will be paid $60 per day on an as-needed basis. As-needed basis can be defined as teacher absences that require the principal's, approval. Extended absences that require the approval of the superintendent are classified as extended leave (more than 10 consecutive days).

3.       If the absent teacher has enough accrued sick leave to cover the extended leave, the long-term substitute (replacing the specific teacher for an extended leave) will be paid $60 through the tenth day. On the eleventh day, provided the substitute has a certificate (in-state or out-of-state) on file in the district office, he/she will be paid on the current salary schedule at the daily rate for a first-year teacher with a bachelor's degree and zero years experience.

4.       If, however, during the extended leave, the absent teacher exhausts all available sick leave or does not have available sick leave, the substitute will be paid based on his/her teaching certificate (experience and educational level) provided the certificate is current/valid and is on file in the district office. If the certificate is not current, the substitute will be paid at the rate for a beginning teacher as stated above.

5.       Substitutes who are not certified and working in an extended leave will be paid at the current substitute rate ($65 per day). However, if the substitute works for the same absent teacher for 30 consecutive days, the rate will increase to $75 per day on the 31st day.

  1. Substitutes serving in a long-term capacity are not to work on scheduled staff development days unless required/requested by the principal. Long-term substitutes may be employed on scheduled teacher workdays.

7.       Substitutes for custodians will be paid at a rate of $6 per hour.
