Daily Responsibilities for Faculty and Staff
In the performance of educational duties, certain responsibilities
belong to the teacher. This not only
includes those persons who are classroom teachers, but every staff member
including teachers, counselors, coaches, secretaries, cafeteria workers, and
administrators. Everyone on the

2. Do supervision and duty assignments as given by
the principal and/or assistant principals.
3. Stand at the classroom door and monitor the halls
before school, between class changes, and after school.
4. Conduct restroom duties as assigned between
classes.
5. Follow the general rule: "If you see them,
you supervise them."
6. Follow the instructions and directions of the
principal and the assistant principals.
7. Be present for duty every day if at all
possible.
8. Contact the principal or his/her designee when
sick leave must be used..
9. Leave concise and updated directions for a
substitute teacher. When illness requires that the teacher take a planned,
long-term absence, leave guidelines and preparations for the substitute and
assist that substitute as requested depending upon medical situation.
10. Dress professionally and be a model for the
students.
11. Keep accurate records and to make timely reports.
12. Supervise their classrooms at all times, never
leaving a classroom unsupervised except in an extreme emergency. If
warranted by an emergency, other adult supervision should be obtained before
leaving the classroom.
13. Attend all assemblies and supervise as assigned.
Those without classes will be given specific areas of supervision.
14. Improve teaching skills and command of subject
matter. Pursuant to that task, the
teacher is expected to continue his/her education through course work, outside
reading, workshops, and in-service education.
15. Engage in long and short term instructional
planning. Come to school each day prepared for duties and instruction. Lesson
plans for the week should be available for review by
16. Use homework to reinforce classroom learning.
Homework should be given to allow practice on material already taught in the
classroom. The scope and amount depends
upon the individual teacher and varies from class to class. All homework assignments should be evaluated.
17. Start lessons promptly and work students, in some
manner, from "bell to bell."
“Sponge” activities and a brief review of the previous day's lessons are
strongly suggested.
18. Use a wide variety of teaching tools and
technologies to insure that learning occurs.
19. Re-teach if evaluations indicate that the majority
of the students did not learn a particular skill or item.
20. Be prepared in such a way that students
with a variety of intelligences, modalities, and learning styles can benefit
from the lesson. Material should be
relevant and connected in someway to its applications in the "real
world."
21. Check student attendance and accurately record
same using materials provided and procedures established. Students are not allowed to record
attendance.
22. Keep students in the classroom. Remember that if a teacher lets them out of
the room then he/she is responsible for whatever they do or what happens while
they are out of the room. Passes should
be for emergencies or school related business only. Students should not be sent out of the room
to interrupt other teachers.
23. Establish, communicate to students and parents,
post, and enforce classroom rules and procedures.
24. Teachers should have a well-defined classroom
management plan.
25. Adhere to and support the official policies and
procedures of the school and the school district.
26. Sponsor and conduct quality extra-curricular
activities. Be available to assist in conducting major events if tasked by the
principal.
27. Support school sponsored activities. Although
attendance at all events is impossible, they should attend a variety of
activities.
28. Attend all required events including open house,
honors and awards, and graduation events.
29. Attend faculty meetings. If not possible obtain permission to miss
from the principal and be responsible for obtaining the information given in
the meeting.
30. Take every opportunity to confer and work with
parents, and enlist their support.
31. Support and attend meetings of the
Parent-Teacher-Student Organization (PTSO) that meets two times annually.
32. Exhibit positive attitudes in actions and words.
33. Be responsible for the facilities, materials, and
equipment entrusted to their keeping. Protect them from abuse.
35. Check telephone voice mail and e-mail messages at least twice daily. Remember most of school communication is going to be conducted over e-mail.
36. Clear classroom visitors/speakers/volunteers with a principal before using them.
37. Do not allow any visitors in your classroom unless they possess a visitor’s identification badge issued by the office.
38. Do not permit babies and children to visit classes during the school day without prior approval of the principal.
39. Obey all copyright laws when using audio-visual materials. Videos and other materials obtained from other sources other than the school media center should be approved by an administrator prior to use. Movies rated beyond PG will not be approved.
40. Wear a school issued Identifying Badge while on school duty at BSHS. Have your school ID with you at all school-sponsored functions.
41. For all school events, please follow school checklists when available.
42. Be familiar with emergency plans and procedures and be ready to implement those procedures quickly and efficiently.
43. Plan, teach, and evaluate according to the curriculum standards. Help prepare students for SAT, HSAP, PSAT, and EOC tests.
44. All daily and weekly lesson plans should include, as a minimum, the specific objectives and or standards for the lesson.
