Induction Contract Teacher
Evaluation Procedures
The teacher induction program that has been implemented for first-year teachers in Spartanburg County School District Two provides beginning teachers with comprehensive guidance and support during their first year in the profession. It has specific strategies, which incorporate the components of the ADEPT model.
I. Induction Contracts
A. The definition of an induction teacher is as follows:

B. The teacher induction course will be taken during the induction contract year.
C. If an induction contract teacher is employed after the thirty-eight day, the induction class will be taken the following year.
II. Goals
A. Assure that students are receiving quality instruction.
B. Increase retention of effective induction-year teachers.
C. Promote the well-being of the whole person, both professionally and personally.
III. Orientation
A. The teacher induction program includes a comprehensive orientation session for all
induction contract teachers.
1. Induction Program components and requirements for successful completion.
2. Explanations of the ADEPT System.
3. Explanation of district/school policies.
4. Information about curriculum, resources, and services available to teachers.
5. Pertinent information about the school and community.
IV. Induction Program
A. Induction teachers will meet and fulfill the requirements for a graduate or certification course.
B. This will give all novice teachers time to share ideas, information, and suggestions.
C. These induction teachers will receive three (3) hours of graduate credit for passing this course.
1. Contract for a course with a University.
2. Provide each teacher with the materials necessary for the course.
D. This class requirement will be included in a statement to be given out with the contract for induction teachers.
E. The course will provide first year teachers with teaching techniques, curriculum frameworks/issues, Internet training, and management techniques as well as ADEPT training. (See Appendix A for a course syllabus.)
V. Evaluation of Induction Teachers
A. Principals will evaluate induction teachers using the following procedures:
1. Provide the teacher with an Assistance Team. The purpose of this team is to support and assist the teacher through their first year of teaching. One of the members of this team will be assigned as mentor to the teacher. The mentor will meet with the teacher at least once a month. The other member of the assistance team will be a building level administrator.

3. Unannounced walk through observations will occur during the school year. These observations may include Assistance Team members, assistant principals, curriculum assistants, mentors, peer teachers and others who can assist the teacher in the evaluation process. (See Appendix B for Observation Form)
B. The principal must complete a summative evaluation form by April 15th. The principal will give a copy of the summative form to the teacher and keep a copy. By May 1, the building administrator will send a copy of all forms to the Personnel office. (See Appendix B for summative evaluation form)
C. An induction teacher may progress to the following contract levels:
1) Non-Renewal 2) Provisional 3)Annual
